Experience/Qualifications
A degree in computer science from a top university and at least 3 years experience or a degree in a scientific subject with at least 5 year's commercial experience after graduation.
Programming Language Experience
Detailed experience in one of the following: C, C++, VC++
O/S Experience
A good knowledge of UNIX system level programming and experience of Windows as a user is essential.
RDBMS Experience
Some knowledge of at least one major RDBMS is required. Pro*C a plus
Duties
Development of new systems within the back office technology group as well as support and maintenance of existing systems. The split between development and support will vary but will generally be around 2/3rds development, 1/3rd support.
In common with other financial services organisations, we work in a rapidly changing environment meaning that flexibility is a basic requirement. This is both in terms of technology used and day to day duties. Some out of hours working will be required since it is often only possible to make changes to production systems at these times.
Technology
The vast majority of development within our firm takes place in C++ on UNIX, VC++ on NT, with a smaller amount written in Perl. However, we do have some applications written in other languages (e.g. MS Access, java) so a willingness to work with these is vital.
Most of our applications make use of SYBASE or ORACLE.
